In GMA Films' Valentines Movie: Marian Rivera has a girlfriend! JC de Vera is gay!

It's complicated, noh? Like love... it's complicated!

My Best Friend's Girl Friend is the valentine movie to watch out for!

ABSCBN vs GMA: Ang sinabi ni Maya Reforma

part 1: ABS-CBN sues AGB-Nielsen
part 2: GMA sues ABS-CBN

Ito ang response ng GMA-7. They say that Maya Reforma never said that GMA was behind the tampering.

Ito naman ang pangontra ng ABS-CBN. Seems like Maya Reforma did point out that GMA is allegedly behind them.

The problem: The phrase 'the evidence we have so far obtained' tells us that AGB-Nielsen's findings are not conclusive.

Remember the Glorietta blast? It was reported earlier that it was a bomb attack because investigations were still being done. Now, the PNP has concluded that it was an accident.

Is it proper to report findings of a case
whose investigation is still in progress?

Local and international news agencies do that all the time by saying that the United Opposition is behind the tampering of votes in the election, that bombings are linked to Al Queda, that the suspect of this crime is so and so. etc.

Ikaw, ano sa tingin mo? What do you think?

Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2 BIG 4 Announced; Jon Avila Force Evicted

Toni Gonzaga's brand of hosting was exceptionally terrifying because she spoke louder and faster, instead of having the usual pauses. And so... in the end... there can only be FOUR.

From left to right: The Big Four- Gaby, Ruben, Will, Riza, and the newly-evicted housemate, Jon.

Survival of the Fittest
I didn't like the way this season ended up with a big 4 because the big 6 trimmed themselves down by elimination, NOT BY PUBLIC VOTE. Baron was force evicted because he got himself drunk again. Now, Jon was evicted for influencing the mock nomination that happened last Sunday. Ano ba yan? Kung nauna pala si Riza mag-suggest nun (out of the kindness of her heart), e di siya na yung natanggal! Tsk.

Ang dugas! The first crime committed by all 5 of them last Saturday was refusing to nominate anyone. That is punishable by eviction. If Big Brother is so stern on following the rules, sana na evict nalang lahat ng housemates. Ay nako, it's all about the money.
At saka, didn't Big Brother pre-empt the actions of the housemates last Sunday (that they would nominate each other)? KUYA EXPECTED JON'S OFFENSE TO HAPPEN. That's why he prepared another box where Jon as Head of Household would automatically nominate 2 people.

Yuck. Malay ba natin na as of airtime kanina, Jon had higher votes? So may 1 housemate na fake big 4. Pero sa bagay, PBB is a competition, pwedeng ma-eliminate ang mga contestants na lumabag sa rules. Too bad. Big Brother evicted only one when all five could have been evicted. Ikaw, ano sa tingin mo, fair ba or unfair yung process ng BIG FOUR?

Anyway, eto na ang Big 4... whether we like it or not.

15 Breakthrough Stars of 2007

2007 was a big break for these 15 bright stars when they suddenly and dramatically made their presence felt: as rookies of the year or as comeback celebrities. (List in random order)

1. Marian Rivera
Breaking point: Playing the lead role of Marimar

Forget Wilma Galvante's bitterness on their network's former queen, the role was meant to be for Marian Rivera. This afternoon soap star bagged the role of the Philippines' most-loved Mexican darling, Marimar. To the highest level ang kilig factor dahil sa kakaibang twists. She still has to prove herself beyond and after the plum Thalia role. In the meantime, enjoy muna tayo sa Marimar...aw!

2. KC Conception
Breaking point: Her homecoming

KC is a star without a show, a singer without an album. This balikbayan won the hearts of the Filipinos by being a global going local. Her ABS-CBN special, KC from Paris to Pinas, fabulously showed her simple and not-s0-fab lifestyle. Other proofs of KC's dazzle: endorsements for Fuller Life, Palmolive, Globe and Bayo; plus starstruck's Jewel Mische, who rose to fame dahil look-alike siya si KC.

3. Dingdong Dantes
Breaking point: Playing Sergio on Marimar

Dingdong started in showbiz as a member of the Abstract Dancers. He got a break playing Inaki in T.G.I.S.. Sumunod naman ang TV shows and movies niya with loveteam partner Antoinette Taus. Dingdong was just there all along pero di siya napansin until Moments of Love, kung saan siya pinuri bilang mature actor. His next projects Atlantika, Eternity, and a directorial stint in the Angel Locsin-produced film weren't big hits. Dingdong rose to elite celebrity status once again as the bronzed Sergio Santibanez. He got all the right combinations: right show, right character, right partner, right timing.

4. Jake Cuenca
Breaking point: Transferring to ABS-CBN

Jake hit the right button when he decided to switch to the other network where he finally got noticed as a talented actor. Good luck Jake!

5. Ruffa Gutierrez
Breaking point: Replacing Kris Aquino on the Buzz

Ruffa made her presence felt this year by organizing RRRampa for a cause with Kapamilya and Kapuso stars, starring in Kokey, holding several endorsements (Nido, Avon, Met, Pantene, Calayan, Kisses and Co.), and by surviving the breakup buzz with Ylmaz Bektas.

6. Edu Manzano
Breaking point: Replacing Kris Aquino on Pilipinas Game Ka Na Ba?

Another beneficiary of Kris' L.O.A. is Edu Manzano. He took over Pilipinas, Game Ka Na Ba and his superb hosting skills were noticed.

7. Yeng Constantino
Breaking point: Rocking the airwaves with songs after winning Pinoy Dream Academy

What a spectacular 2007 for Yeng Constantino. After winning PDA in December 2006, hindi na yata naubusan ng kanta ni Yeng sa radyo with hits like "Hawak Kamay," "If we fall in love," "Pangarap lang," "Salamat," "Cool off," "Time in," etc. Her songs are radio-friendly and heartfelt. May pusong pinoy talaga. This year, Yeng was blessed with a triple-platinum first album, a successful Rock Enroll concert plus endorsements for Converse, Globe Asiatique, Globe, and Pepsi. Now let's see how Yeng fares in her sophomore year.

8. Yasmien Kurdi
Breaking point: Being crowned as GMA7's new Drama Princess.

Yasmien entered the public scene when she joined StarStruck in 2003. It took 4 long years before she reached the state where she is now. Last May 2007, GMA 7 introduced Yasmien Kurdi as it's new Drama Princess. Aside from appearing last year in shows like Bakekang, Pintig ng Puso and a very successful Pasan Ko ang Daigdig, this talented singer-actress is set to star in her own primetime soap, Pintig ng Puso. Hurray for Yasmien!

9. Charice Pempengco
Breaking point: Being featured on E!News via YouTube

My gulay! Sabi ba naman nila na "a star is born!" Pang-export quality to. Go Charice! Stike while the iron is hot!

10. Marc Nelson
Breaking point: Joining The Amazing Race Asia Season 2

Marc Nelson is already a popular face in the local scene as a host of Sports Unlimited and a model for Bench, SM, and Kenny Rogers Roasters. But this certified hottie jumped to the next level as he wowed Asian audiences of The Amazing Race Asia 2. Armed with wit, endurance, hilarious humor, and dumb luck, he and teammate Rovilson Fernandez are currently grabbing the top spots of every leg of the race. Team Philippines, Fight!

11. Dr. Hayden Kho
Breaking Point: Joining Celebrity Duets

Vicki Belo's current squeeze is prize catch. The singing surgeon made waves as one of the finalists on Celebrity Duets. He is so HHHOT! He's smart. He's young. He's buff (one of the Metro Bodies in 2007). And he seems very dedicated to his girlfriend. Why does she have it all? Doc Hayden is now intent on entering showbiz and he's currently seen in Marimar, playing... uhhh, himself? WTH? Anyway, good luck sa showbiz Doc Hayden!

12. Iza Calzado
Breaking Point: Bagged a Hollywood role in "The Echo"

This beauty made it big in 2007 by filming the American remake of "The Echo" starring Jesse Bradford. Back in the Philippines, she starred in 5 movies: Blackout, Mona: the Singapore Escort, Ouija, Batanes (with Ken Zhu), and the MMFF entry, Desperadas. She's also been very visible in the small screen with commercials of Nestle, Liveraide, etc. and by starring in Impostora. More power to Iza in 2008!

13. Aga Muhlach
Breaking Point: Returning in blockbuster hit "A Love Story"

Aga Muhlach is back with a vengeance! A picture of him showing off well-sculpted abs circulated around the internet and was rumored to be photoshopped. Aga made his presence felt in the mega-movie, in his return as TV's Doc Aga, and in organizing the First Philippine Wake boarding Cup. These along with continued endorsements from his usual commercials. Welcome back, Aga!

14. Angelica Panganiban
Breaking Point: Playing
Aga Muhlach's WIFE in "A Love Story"

No one ever seemed to take Angelica Panganiban seriously. Before A Love Story, Angelica was just the talk of the town because of her allegedly photoshop-edited belly. Photoshopped or not, it doesn't affect the view that she's now matured as an actress. The sulky siren appeared in Maging Sino Ka Man and became a regular character in MSKM Book2. Guess that shows her detractors that Angelica's an actress to watch out for -- Maging Photoshopped Ka Man :D

15. Dino Imperial Breaking Point: Being voted as the No.1 Candy Cutie for 2007

This pa-cute young actor and model turned many heads and made many hearts throb as Bill in the series Abt Ur Luv, and as the cute commercial model of Teriyaki Boy, Dunkin Donuts, Coke (which was shown across southeast Asia), and PLDT myDSL. Although kailangan pa talaga niya mag acting workshop to get rid of that pa-cute effect, his popularity among teens landed him more roles in Prinsesa ng Banyera and the upcoming primetime series, Volta.

Hello Showbiz 2008!

Hello Philippines and Hello World! Hello Showbiz!

Simula na ng 2008... "This could be the start of something new, it feels so
right to be here with you!" This is where I'll write my thoughts on Philippine showbiz! Sige, international na din pag may time. This is my personal extension of PEX! Ang gulo kasi doon minsan so dito na rin ako. (Hello to my fellow pexers, especially to rom - salamat sa header!)

Short interview with the blog author:

Q: Who are you?
A: I'm a content writer from QC working in a Makati-based BPO firm. I have a longtime love-hate relationship with the entertainment industry.

Q: Why showbiz?

A: I think the entertainment industry says a lot about who we are as Filipinos: how we are represented and how we react to our representation.

Q: What is the goal of your blog?
A: This blog looks at the light and dark side of the biz. It aims to achieve a sensible conversation on the seemingly senseless world of showbiz.

Q: Is your blog a source of chismax?
A: No and yes, sort of. I'll discuss chismis and controversies. If you want hard-core chismis, go to the nearest kanto and buy a tabloid.

Q: What will be the topics of your posts?
A: Siyempre, celebrities and controversies that surround them; TV shows na may K at walang K; movies na maganda at movies na sayang sa pera; atbp.

Q. Why do you post in Tagalog and English?
A: Wala lang.
